Dynasty continues at Mac

    Making the state semifinals isn’t easy. It only seems that way at MacArthur.
    For the fifth time in six years, the Highlander football team made it at least that far. Their season ended on Saturday with a 47-14 loss to Carl Albert, but there was no reason for Mac to lower its collective head after that one.
    I haven’t heard anyone griping about Mac’s 10-3 season, but just for future reference I want to emphasize that these 10-win campaigns aren’t something to be taken for granted. This senior class — and the ones that came before it — has accomplished something very special in continuing a dynasty of sorts at the high school level.

    This season, Mac didn’t win the District 5A-1 championship that it’s expected to win every year. But the Highlanders still beat the two bigger schools in town to claim a city championship, and they still won two playoff games, going on the road to win the second. Nothing wrong with..(+)

Steele overcomes slow start

    If you’ve been watching MacArthur football games this season, you might have noticed one name coming over the P.A. more than it did early in the year.     That name is Kelvin Steele.
    The Highlander senior defensive end got off to a slow start but has been a difference maker recently as Mac is starting to play its best defense of the year.
    “He got a lot of playing time as a junior and held his own against some bigger players, so I felt good about him coming back to anchor our line,” Mac head coach Ernie Manning said...(+)
